Seven weeks from start to finish is all it took for PoGo Charge and Last Mile Asset Management to construct, install and commission eight new ultra rapid (UR) chargers at a checkpoint for the recently ended nationwide EV Rally – demonstrating what can be achieved when expert partners are aligned, and what’s really possible in accelerating the roll-out of further EV charging infrastructure.
The checkpoint, at The Galleries within the Washington Retail Park, hosted some 50 charging sessions, reliably dispensing over 1,000kW of power, to keep the cars on the road as they motored down through the country.
And now it will remain as a hub for everyday motoring as the first of 658 innovative EV charging points that will ultimately be installed at strategic locations throughout England, Scotland and Wales as part of a deal between PoGo and London and Cambridge Properties (LCP) part of M Core.
The construction of the checkpoint site took less than 50 days from installation to energisation such that it was ready for use in time for the July 2nd deadline, the teams working together as one to overcome the typical challenges associated with the deployment of any new site including the provision of power – which can take more than 3 months to complete – as evidenced by the project going live just three weeks after DNO design approval. This enabling us to showcase our innovative Touch Plus UR DC charging point technology and its benefits for EV drivers and the wider EV community.
Stuart Douglas, our Managing Director, is delighted to have worked with a range of collaborators for the EV Rally: “The EV Rally provided the perfect demonstration for how the network is supported and facilitated by strong partnerships, not only with Last Mile Asset Management team, but also London Cambridge Property (part of M Core), Cleaner EV, Formula Space and Northern Power Grid, underpinning our shared commitment for an electric vehicle future.
“The event was a huge success for everyone involved in wanting to promote sustainable transport solutions.”
